Our favorite inrepid explorers Siddharth, Vikram, Rijul Gill, Sanju & Sathya have been on the trail to find the elusive Tantgiri pass. Anyone who has any information about this pass, please leave a comment on Sathya’s blog.
Humbled by the 4988 meters high MANALI Pass ( TANTGIRI Pass ) of DHAULADHAR Range leading from MANALI to BADA BHANGAL ( BAIJNATH, KANGRA ) . A trail that virtually exists on the maps and survey of India topo sheets but practically a pass that is not feasible . Inhospitable terrain coupled with totally wrong information available across web and other print mediums , huge ice walls , crevassed glacier , lateral traverse on re entrants where venturing would mean inviting trouble made this crossing impossible.
Tasty Trail Meal

Intense nay Insane Training
A series of mountaineering videos from Discovery Canada entitled Unclimbed: Reaching the Summit today continues with episode 3. Some may call this training regime intense, others may think it borders on insanity but as they say ‘It’s better to sweat than to bleed’. In this case better to freeze than to umm, freeze.
Outdoor Research (OR) rebutts GQ’s sexist photo shoot
GQ recently antagonized a lot of climbers by taking only men on a feature photo shoot where women served as mere bolsters or ‘props’ if you will. Outdoor research landed a witty rebuttal when they replaced men with women climbers. Take that sexism! For more, visit GQ and Outdoor Research.
If you're not concerned about Global warming then you should be.
The sacred Ganges River, essential to northern Indian life and source of much of Hindu religious practice, flows from a broad region in the Indian and Nepal Himalaya. The major stem of “Ganga” is the Bhagirathi River, which emerges as a large mountain stream from beneath the 28.5 km long Gangotri Glacier in the state of Uttarakhand, India, north of New Delhi. The glacier has been retreating for more than a century, recently at slightly more slowly than before, but still at a rate of 18 meters per year.
Other dedicated photographers with strong scientific backgrounds are also adding to our knowledge of how glaciers are changing, including mountaineer and filmmaker David Breashears and Jim Balog whose film about his glacier time-lapse imagery, “Chasing Ice” has been released.
XKCD recently did a superb comic on this topic.
